Hey I-Team...it’s so good to type that greeting again! After a one year hiatus, I’m so happy to get back to writing for my blog! I hope this post finds you well as you endure the remainder of this summer heat because y’all, it's "hotter than fish grease" out there (LOL).
As I’m writing this post, I’m just a couple of weeks away from returning back to work. Ahhh yes, the month of August has arrived.
With school districts preparing for the 2024-2025 school year, many educators are going back to work in their same building. For most, they will be welcoming new members to their staff who may range from first year teachers to permanent subs; many of the subs are assigned to teach a grade that wasn’t filled by a certified teacher. It’s important to note that not all permanent subs lack a teaching certificate. In fact, there are permanent subs who may be retired teachers who wanted to come back to teach. There are also permanent subs who have limited experience in education, but have a desire to work with students.
Studies have shown that since returning back to in person learning after the pandemic, districts have seen an uptick in teachers leaving the profession. Burnout at every level in education seems to also be on the rise. So what role do school principals play in all of this? And how do they carry out the mission and vision of their school while working tirelessly to keep high turnovers from happening year after year? To kick off season 5 of the Intentional Instruction Podcast, I'm joined by elementary school principal Dr. Kelsey Bodie. Her insights into some of the things that principals do to keep their schools on a path of success will give you a glimpse into the day to day life of a principal. To listen, just click here.
